Ranking Utahs Golf Courses

Robert Lammle is a golf enthusiast living in Utah, where he reviews and ranks the state’s most renowned golf courses. There are a lot of criteria to consider when ranking a golf course, such as the variation in holes, the condition of the course, and the landscape. Here are some questions Lammle asks himself about the characteristics of a course when he ranks them.

  1. Playability – Does the design of the course make it suitable for players of all levels? Are pin placements fair and reasonable in relation to the speed of the greens and the approach shots required?
  1. Variation – Do the holes vary in length, configuration, hazard placements, green shapes, and green contours?
  1. Landscape – Do the design features (like trees, fairways, and vegetation) make each hole different while connecting them to the entire set of holes? Does the course have landscape, vegetation, water features, and scenery that make the overall course enjoyable?
  1. Conditions – Are the tee boxes, greens, and fairways well maintained and in good condition? Are the fairways fast and are the greens firm and receptive? Are hazard areas well marked and visible?
  1. Challenge – Does the course offer risks and rewards while testing length and accuracy of a shot?
  1. Price – Is the price of a round suitable for the overall feel and quality of the course?
  1. Hospitality – Are the staff members friendly and quick to provide great customer service?
